Bikram on NetflixDecember 10th, 2019 | Posted by in Uncategorized
Bikram yoga is getting a bit of press lately in response to the documentary about Bikram Choudhury and his behavior, so we’d like to take this opportunity to tell you who we are and what we do—to clear up any questions you may have about the community you are a part of.
Bikram Yoga of Corvallis has been an independently owned and operated local business since 2002, and has never been part of any affiliation or franchise. We teach a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises of the Ghosh lineage introduced and popularized by Bikram Choudhury.
Our mission is to teach to heal, and teach from the heart. Though we are grateful for the yoga that Mr. Choudhury brought into our culture, we do not align with or support his behavior. We encourage future teachers to attend certified trainings, such as Raja Yoga Academy, from which no financial benefits go to Mr. Choudhury. We are incredibly grateful to bring the 26 and 2 of Bikram Yoga to you with the new generation of teachers who have been trained in a more compassionate and loving environment.
We pride ourselves on coming from a place of authenticity and creating space for all people from all walks of life to feel safe and supported while exploring the benefits of this series. The message of this practice is compassionate, powerful, and transformative, and we strive to build a community of people who also align behind these values.
